Summarization of first week at Laser Light

Overall, it was a pretty helpful experience for me to understand how a small/medium size manufacturing company survive in this big market with the fine cooperation between each departments. Mr. Hannon really taught me a huge amount of knowledge and experience that he had both from his MBA and the later years he applied those MBA strategies to grow this company. Mr. Hannon himself is a really efficient businessman. One of his attributes that drove this company grow up substantially from almost failing is his ability to seek the proper macro-direction for the company. He does not really do many detailed management work. He is more like a big captain of this ship.

First week interning at LaserLight Inc.

For this week, I started my internship at LaserLight Inc. It is a high-tech manufacturing company that specializes in drilling micro holes on parts by applying laser machines.

Monday:Mr Hannan, the CEO and the owner of the company, gave me a introduction of the company and a lesson on SWOT analysis of the company. He learned this company managing strategic technique from his MBA program, and he has applied this technique on managing LaserLight since then. In the afternoon, We had a meeting with the C.O.O of the company and the director of technology department together.

Tuesday: Kim, the director of marketing department taught me a comprehensive class on what methods does the company use to promote its fame and reputation to outside world. And how does the company specifically apply them.

Wednesday: In the morning, Scott, the controller of the company taught me about the cost system of the company and the gross profit. In the afternoon, Brittany, the HR director, taught me what kinds of work an HR does everyday.

Summarization of the week interning with Mr. Levinson.

Thursday: We had 5 meetings and 1 presentations. One of the meetings was a discussion for deciding the waterproof style of the outdoor headwear that will fit the government regulation and also keep as many profits as possible. We had this huge presentation that five employees from any departments of the company can come and present their ideas for the purpose of saving the company’s cost in a big hall. It was pretty cool to see how a company could maximize people’s wisdom by getting all of them involved.

Friday: We had four meetings today. One of them was a discussion about the process of making scoresheets for a couple departments. It is a way to form a new culture for the future of the company. Mr. Levinson took me for a complete tour of the factory in the afternoon.

Overall, last week was really busy but it was super helpful for me to learn and understanding how the management office operate a big firm like PAI Fashion. It was just a phenomenal experience.

Week interning with Mr. Levinson so far.

For this week, I am shadowing Mr. Levinson at PAI Fashion. PAI fashion is a big wholesaler company that mainly sells headwear and apparel. And Mr. Levinson is both the owner and the vp Secretary of the company.

The main work I did for this week was to stay with Mr. Levinson and observe all the works he does as a vp. He is quite a busy person. He usually has hundreds of emails to read and reply and a huge amount of meetings to attend. He is an extremely energetic and passionate businessman.

Monday: We had six meetings. Most of them were about preparing for the big annual meeting of factory operation on Tuesday. So they were basically discussions towards the data of the annual cost. There was one different meeting was a discussion to discover a way to deal with this exclusive proposition 65 that California has.

Tuesday: We had the annual meeting of factory operation in the morning. It was a 3 hours long meeting. All the factory managers under the company came to this meeting. We talked about ways to train new people, motivate the employees, and keep the old experienced workers. After that, Mr. Levinson went to a private meeting with the president and another vp of the company for the purpose of concluding and evaluating the big meeting happened in the morning. They exchanged their genuine opinions about the quality of the discussions happened in that meeting. After that, Mr. Levinson went back to his office to have another meeting with one of the managers was in the morning meeting.

Wednesday: We had 5 meetings today. Some of them were about the situations of the freight. They talked about if all the freights were arrived to the customers on time and ways to lower the cost of freight distribution.

Overall, I really like shadowing Mr. Levinson. I have learned a lot about people skills and management decisions both explicitly and implicitly. I think this internship experience really worth the 100-ish miles drive everyday.

Summarization of the second week at school

Last week, I worked with Dr. Urban and Mrs. Fu. For the earlier part of the week, I finished the spreadsheet for the Calculus curriculum and export all the files of Geometry and some of the Calculus curriculum into PDFs. Pretty much similar to things I did on the first week at school.

For the later part of the week, since I have finished this project and Dr. Urbano went out for camping trip, I worked with Mrs. Fu for her self-defense interim. I taught the middle schoolers how to properly utilize the equipments in the lifting room to gain strength and grow size.

Mid-Week Update

This is my second week interning with Dr. Urbano. One of the main tasks that he offered me was to create a spreadsheet that contains all the Calculus work from low level to high level. Since I made a mistake last week while creating the files of the curriculum, I had to rename all the files this week. Luckily, I finished both of these big tasks today. Dr. Urbano will not be at school for the rest of the week. So, Mrs. Fu will become my new boss.

Summarization of the first week interning at school.

There are two different kinds of work that I did last week, creating the Calculus curriculum and helping Dr. Urbano. I used the program that I talked about in the previous post to create a fair amount of homework problems for limit, differentiation and integration. I separated them from level one problems to level three problems.

Two main things that I helped Dr. with were assisting his Math class and overwatch chicken middle kiddos.

Hope whoever will join Calculus next year will enjoy the homework that I created for your guys!

First day interning with Dr. Urbano and Mrs. Fu

I started my internship with Dr. Urbano and Mrs. Fu today at school.

In the morning, I helped Dr. Urbano to teach some students in his math class. Then, I was assigned a Math curriculum project to do. Mrs. Fu showed me a computer program that can generate Math practice problems. Later on, I tried to utilize this program to create different sets of Calculus problems from easy to hard level for the next generation of TFS. This is probably what my main focus for this week.

LAST Week at Semco

During the last week, there are two main topics that I was trying to understand, expense and revenue. By doing all those excel projects, I gradually learned how the company set the standard cost for each material and how the standard cost differ from the actual cost. Moreover, I have learned all the formulas that they use to get data such as overhead cost.

Micheal took me for a factory tour at the end of the week. He showed me all the new machines and the working routine of the factory laborers.

Overall, these weeks have been just amazing.

Second week at Semco Plastic so far.

For this week, Michael who is the senior accountant of Semco taught me all the formulas that they use to create expense budgets. I did a fair amount of practice with the calculations of the standard cost, fixed cost, and etc. One of the issue that I encountered was that it was really hard to gather all the necessary information, since they exist separately and Semco keeps changing the information such as the Center Cost.

Another thing I accomplished on Tuesday was the excel work for the organization the data of a huge number of material consumption and cost. It took me three days.
