Last Post

Yesterday: Had my AP Calc BC test (required about a week’s worth of brain power).

Today: The hospital couldn’t accommodate me today; I’m preparing my presentation and researching all the things I learned/saw in the C-section on Monday.

Tomorrow: Last day of my (and everyone else’s?) project! I’ll be shadowing a nurse in the mother/baby department.

MO Bap/This Week

Today, I shadowed a nurse at Missouri Baptist in a surgical inpatient unit (a post-op unit that seems to function as one step down from an ICU). She had five patients (most of them elderly and one 21-years-old) and I got to follow her around during the busiest part of the day. Some things I saw her do: pass out medications, take vitals, chart on Epic, give a suppository, apply ointment in “unseemly places.”

Moral of the story, I enjoyed the experience much more than I thought I would. I still want to work with babies; if plans A, B, C, D, E, and F fail, Surgical Inpatient would probably be my plan G (approximately).

Past Week

I finished up at Crisis Nursery this past week, and I’m pretty much done with the volunteer/kid part of my project.

For the next couple of weeks, I will be shadowing nurses at three different hospitals and studying a lot for my AP test. The details for lots of my shadowing are still up in the air so I hope nothing falls through!

Just Another Post

The past two days, I have been back at school finishing the geometry spreadsheet I started a few weeks ago.

I’ll spend the mornings Wed-Fri at Crisis Nursery because I enjoyed it and they seemed to need help. From 12:00-4:00 they all nap so I’ll leave once everyone’s down. In the afternoons, I’m studying for my AP Calc test and finalizing details for hospital shadowing next week.

Our Lady’s Inn–Days 8-9

Yesterday, I watched a few toddlers for a couple hours; after two weeks, we’re practically bffs. We also finished sorting donations and taking inventory.

Today, Angela (the volunteer coordinator) took me to their location in South City. We got a tour of the facility and chatted a lot on the ride; she’s twenty-seven so we get a long pretty well.

Tomorrow is my last day here!
