Today was the first day of my second week at Gambrill. This week I will be shadowing the marketing department.
Today, I assembled information packets all morning, helped Cathy with a bracelet making activity before lunch, and learned how to inspect a room before a new resident moves in.
I learned that there are about one or two residents moving in each week this month, so the ladies I am working with (Danielle, Debra, and Gwen) are very busy inspecting rooms and communicating with the incoming resident(s) to ensure that everything is as they requested.
What exactly are you checking for when inspecting the rooms?
Loose doors and cabinets, dirt, and broken lights or faucets (or anything broken, for that matter.) The particular room we inspected today had a small water stain on the ceiling and some unknown sticky substance under the sink, so both of those were recorded for maintenance to fix before the resident moves in.
Sounds like you’ve been busy! Is the work environment fun?
Yes, very! Some of it is just mindless organization but it’s still enjoyable. All of the staff that I’ve met so far are very friendly.
Is marketing something you’re interested in pursuing as a career?
I don’t think so! Although there is still lots of face-to-face interaction, I prefer working with the residents. I am learning all that goes on behind the scenes though! It surprised me.
