Since most of my plans for this month have been cancelled, I decided to start sewing masks for the local hospitals that are in need of them. It is starting out slow right now but I hope to get faster as I keep sewing throughout the weeks.
I will hopefully be starting volunteer work at s food pantry either tomorrow or the next day. Here I am going to be packaging boxes and/or delivering them for families who need the food.
I have also been starting cooking/baking more often for my family (mostly cookies but I plan on branching out to other things), and I have also been writing down ideas for new stories that I can start on.
I hope that I can build on this momentum to keep the schedule that I have set out for myself.
Hope everyone is doing well and is staying safe!

Hi guys,
As of right now, I only have one week of my senior project that hasn’t cancelled and that is week 4, doing dock construction at Lake Ozark. My plan now is to vlog my life in isolation. Every week I will have a fun task or jobs to do to keep me busy and not sitting on my couch playing Mario Cart (which I have done for a while now.) I’m planning to do a cooking week, yard work week, tennis/fitness week…etc.
That being said… this is DIY Week!
The entire week I will be working on DIY projects that I’ve always wanted to do, but never had the time. I will be making crochet scarves, jewelry, blankets and hospital masks. I’m very excited and I will post pictures at the end of the week. I’m not sure how I will show y’all my vlogs, but I will figure something out. I’m trying to keep them short, so I will probably have 7 short vlogs for each week.
I hope you all are staying safe and healthy in this crazy time! -Kathryn Dennigmann 🙂
My project has postponed, but in the mean time I have chosen to sew face masks and pillows for others. You have no idea how long it takes me to do all this sewing… basically all day. I’m enjoying it. I’m sewing face masks for family members in need or for others while supplies last… I’m not the only one with this idea so supplies are VERY limited. It is extremely difficult to find elastic! Anyways, I’m hoping I will get time at the school I planned to volunteer at. Here are some pictures….
The first week of my Senior Project will be spent working remotely with Cliffedge Marketing. Cliffedge Marketing is a small, family-like food and beverage marketing agency who partners with local retailers to build and maintain a thriving brand. My contact for this place is the former Ms. Cliffe. During my brother’s time at Barat Academy, a similarly small school like ours, he went out of his way to recruit other peers in hopes of fielding a full soccer team. He made a deal with the cross country team that if they played soccer he would run cross country. Ms. Cliffe, now known as Mrs. Gilbert, was his cross country coach who my family has kept in contact with throughout the years.
Mrs. Gilbert was supposed to be on maternity leave, however, due to the coronavirus she is working remotely along with the rest of the staff. During one of their meetings they bounced around ideas about how they could provide the most hands on experience for me… virtually. This week I will be focusing on one client of theirs for a possible marketing campaign. It will give me a good feel for what they do overall and help walk me through each of the steps they take when working with a client. I will be putting together a marketing campaign idea for Country Bob’s (one of their main clients), looking at ways to help their brand stand out right now. I will be creating a powerpoint to present my ideas and they will review it on Friday and give me feedback/notes.
Along with familiarizing myself with their partnerships I will be learning about them and what they do. On Tuesday and Wednesday I will have four meetings (about 30 minutes to an hour long) with the members of their staff who specialize in these four areas: sampling / possible in-store activation techniques, social media posting, consumer engagement / contesting, and branding and how to conduct a sales pitch. I am super excited to start tomorrow. I am taking my Senior Project one week at a time because everything is still up in the air for some of my locations and they don’t want to cancel prematurely.
I want to give you all a little update on my senior project since it has been affected by the corona virus.
I am working remotely for december literary magazine on projects like reading online submissions. They set up a staff account on Submittable for me, and I have been reviewing new fiction pieces. I enjoy it so far.
I am spending more time on my novel (as a part of my senior project) during quarantine. I plan to film my writing process to inspire others.
I signed up to provide child-care for Mercy co-workers and write snail mail/emails to the seniors at Gambrill Gardens. I’m happy to help someone during this confusing time.
A friend from my writers workshop asked me to be an editor/staff member of her literary magazine. It is going to be an online platform where young adults can share their opinions and emotional response to world events like climate change and Coronavirus in the form of prose/poetry/art, and hopefully when we gain enough traction we can raise money for the solution to these problems through contests. It was an ambitious and interesting proposal and I agreed to join the team. I’ll keep you all posted on that.
Also, as the editor, I will finish up the layout of The Reader during my spare time.
I will be posting about the last two days now. (Read first post to get caught up for this post.) I only did 4 days because it made more sense to come home today, and I was able to get 30 hours in 4 days anyway, as we arrived at the hospital around 6:50 and left at about 14:20 Monday, 14:50 Tuesday, 14:00 Wednesday, and a bit after 15:00 on Thursday (not counting saying goodbye to everyone/getting group pictures, which I won’t post all of here because a) it would be a decent amount and b) I want to save some for the presentation.)

Not sure why some pictures are turned weird again.
I had a great experience during this shadowing. No light-headedness, no problems of any kind. I leaned a lot – specifics I will get into during the presentation – and I had a great time. It was sad to go back home. I am very grateful for this experience though. Everyone at the hospital was very kind and them letting me do this was very generous.
I have done my first week of senior project over the break, as it was easier to do then. I have been shadowing in the operating room at the hospital my grandfather — who is an anesthesiologist — works at, which is Stone County Medical Center. I will be talking about the first two days in this post and the rest tomorrow. I cannot go into detail about certain things, as what happens in the OR stays in the OR, as they say. I can talk about general surgery procedures and things of that nature, however. I was also able to get some pictures of things as long as the patient’s face wasn’t in them or any other information considered confidential.
The procedures I saw:
Day 1
Day 2:
The hospital is dealing with coronavirus by testing everyone who enters the hospital for a fever and giving those who are clear a sticker to wear and only letting those with a sticker inside. Mine are shown below. A bit of blood got on the first one, which was most likely from the spraying of one of the incisions with a sterile liquid in order to rinse out the blood. There was also a meeting on Tuesday discussing coronavirus, mainly concerning patients having guests with them. which is in most cases stopped. They also discussed which type of mask they should wear for certain operations.
Pictures:
Not sure why the pictures are upside down or sideways, as they are not like that in my library. The sticker pictures are the ones I got for not having a fever as stated above. The next one is of me observing on the left/bottom of the picture. The last picture is of me and my grandfather together. We have had a great time.
Hi! For my senior project I will be doing a lot of things. For most of it I will be working at Cantor Injury law learning about law and how to run a business. On Monday nights I am taking an intense Hebrew program , and Tuesday nights I will be working at a Hebrew school. And on Fridays I will be at Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community school working with the Hebrew teachers and students. In Addition I will be doing some volunteer work for an American Political group that works to create a positive U.S. and Israeli alliance, Called AIPAC. I will also be attending IDF army seminars.
I plan to intern at St. Louis Poetry center and december Literary Magazine throughout my senior project. The director of the St. Louis Poetry Center and the Managing Editor of december know each other, and they put in effort to make the two internships complementary for me, which I’m beyond grateful for.
As an avid poetry reader and aspiring poet, I want to help with organizing events for poetry lovers in St. Louis. I also hope to expand my network in the literary community and meet like-minded people. I’ll learn a lot from talking to people who have been in this industry longer than me.
I want to use the skills I learned being an editor at school and my local writer’s group in a larger professional setting. I want to get as much editorial, publishing, design, marketing, and website maintenance experience as I can. I also look forward to gaining insights on the criteria a literary magazine uses to assess the quality of the submissions.
Here are a list of projects that I plan to work on:
While interning, I also plan to spend time working on an independent writing project, my literary novel The Promises of the Wilderness. I wrote the first 50 pages last spring. If I write for five hours per week throughout the seven weeks, I will finish the first draft of the book. I want to have the experience of writing a book while having a full-time job because it is probably something I will do in the future.
My senior project advisor is Dr. Hurwitz. I will update him on how my project is going at least once a week over email. If an in-person meeting is needed, I will come to TFS after work.
Hello! My Senior Project is helping at organizations mostly in Washington, near where I live. I am doing some cataloguing and maybe clerical duties with the Route 66 State Park. I am working on planning a baby shower with a center in Union. I also have 2 other places. I am excited and blessed about it.
