I’m back. After a busy three weeks of work abroad I’m back in the US. I got back last night and will start my new position tomorrow. So lets go over what I’v been doing for the past two weeks. Well for the past two weeks I was in Luxembourg. I was at a company called SES, you can look at my previous posts to learn more about them. For a week an a half I was in the vendor management department what they do is manage all the things that need to be purchased with company money. While I was there I had meetings with all the people in the office where they would tell me what they do and how they do it. Each person had a different categories of items that they were responsible for. For example there’s travel and entertainment which is responsible for flights, car rentals, all expenses occurred while traveling, and the company credit cards. Then there was someone who did all the day to day items that the company would need. Then there were the people that deal with the big ticket items. While I was there I also consolidated a bunch of excel files for them. Then for two days I was in corporate development. More specifically the Mergers and acquisitions department. This was very interesting because they showed me some of the tools that they have to value other companies. For these two days I had an assignment to research two companies and deliver a short report on them. I can’t actually tell you any information about it because it is “Confidential” and could be considered “Insider Trading”. But now I’m back in the US ready to start a company called Nurses and Co. working in the marketing department.

So for the past two days I’ve been at SES. Yesterday I arrived and got a short tour around the building I was in. They have many different buildings that do all different things. The one I’m in is where all the office work gets done. In case you don’t know what SES does I’ll tell you. SES have over 50 geo-stationary satellites in orbit providing Internet, over 7,200 TV channels to over 312 million homes, telephone services, and pretty much anything else to do with satellites. Also, they have over 1,500 employees world wide. They have offices all over the world, but their headquarters are here in Luxembourg. They have a field of satellite dishes that are massive. I will try and post a picture next time I post an entry. They also control all the satellites here at this location. I have been told I will get a tour of the whole facility sometime before the end of the week. I’m not sure if I can take pictures everywhere but I will try to.

So, for the past week I have been at the company footfall. I have been helping them develop a introduction program for two of their new employees who will be doing telemarketing. I also did research into some of their products for them. I discovered some certifications that some of their products had they will now be able to display on their website and ads. I have left Galway, Ireland now and I am now in Luxembourg. I had to fly from Dublin to Frankfurt. From Frankfurt my uncle picked me up and drove me to his house. Now the time difference between me and STL is seven hours. I’ll do my best to keep you updated.

Yesterday (Monday) I arrived into Ireland. I spent the first half of the day just resting up. I then spent the second half of the day learning about my uncles business. He runs his own business called Niall O’Regan Financial Services. It’s based out of his house. He has his own office where he does all of his business. Today (Tuesday) I was at a company called footfall. The owner, Malcom, is my uncles neighbor and good friend. They do enterance matting. To fully understand what they do you’ll have to look at their website footfall.ie. I spent today learning about the company and the products. I will be there for the rest of the week. I’ll keep you updated as time goes on.

You all have my sincerest apology for not posting daily, as is required. For the past week I have been scanning papers, shredding papers, packaging products, and getting products ready to ship. I am now in the airport waiting to bard my plane to Ireland. So hopefully this next week will be more interesting. I’ll keep you posted. Robert out.

Oh boy was today exciting. I spent the entire day putting bar code stickers on packages. I was supposed to have a meeting with an accountant but unfortunately she was busy so it had to be moved to next week. This whole week I was supposed to be working with a woman who deals with all the promotional products that Semco makes. Unfortunately she has been out sick. Hopefully she will be back next week so I can work with her.

Back to the copy room for me. Again I spent most of the day in the copy room scanning files. I also helped out some other people with some of their extra work. Toward the end of the day I had a meeting with Steffanie Thomas who is the customer service director. She handles all the communication between the customer and Semco. She is on call 24/7 for the customer, if their is a problem she has to deal with it day or night. Her job requires much more work than I initially thought.

Day two at Semco. I got to sit in on a meeting about all of the orders they have for all of the companies they deal with. It was very interesting. I also did lots of scanning. I had to scan papers for Ronnie who does all of the quoting for their potential customers. There’s a lot of papers. For most of the day I sat in the copy room and scanned files. I also had a meeting with Matt Waisiak who is the National Sales Manager. He is responsible for bringing in new customers. He showed me some of the presentations that he would show a potential customer. It was very interesting and I learned a lot.

3/28/16

Today was my first day at Semco. When I got there I took a tour of their facilities, I met everyone in the offices, and learned a little bit about what they do. When I was on a tour of the factory I learned what they make and how they make it. They have a vast array of machines that can be used for all different projects. They also design some of their own machines that improve speed and efficiency in the assembly lines. For the majority of the day i was working with a woman named Brittany in the warehouse. She manages all of their promotional products, such as phone stands, gap sticks, key chains, etc… She showed me how these products were labeled and packaged. While I was with her she was fulfilling an order for Google for about 1000 phone stands with googles logo on it. I helped her where every I could, doing mostly boring work but work nonetheless. I am excited to see what tomorrow holds.

Robert’s Project

For my senior project I will be at many different companies. I will be going to Semco and working in their retail / promotional division. After Semco I will be going to Ireland to work with my Uncle who owns a financial firm. There I will be able to learn what it takes to own your own business. After I leave there I am going to Luxembourg to work with my other uncle who works for a company called SES that controls satellites. I will then come back to the U.S. and work at a company called Nurses and Co. I will be working with one of their graphic designers / marketers. I am pretty excited for all of this.
